Are you trying to figure out how to be successful on Fiverr and uplevel your freelancing career?
Fiverr is really underrated when it comes to launching and growing your freelancer business. But truth is you can make a lot of money with Fiverr gigs.
In this post I will share how I managed to stand out on Fiverr and how to dominate a market or a niche.
This post contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link.
The Very First Step
So before we get started, I’d like you to answer this simple question:
How much money would you like to earn on Fiverr every single month?
Consider this the very first step in learning how to stand out on Fiverr and achieve success.
Why?
Because in order to succeed, we have to have a clear goal.
Having a clear goal will help us:
Analyze and choose a market: The last thing you want is end up in a saturated market or niche.
Consider scalability: Avoid ending up offering time-consuming and low-priced services.
Forecast the future: You will have to think from day one about the future. For example thinking about outsourcing methods and automation tools that will help you grow your online business on Fiverr.
What I am sharing here is exactly what I did to achieve success on Fiverr personally and for other people as well.
To teach you how to be successful on Fiverr, we will go through three steps:
1. Find the right niche or the right market
This is the part where everyone freaks out and wastes most of their time on. But I say, don’t waste too much energy on it.
The more you think about it, the harder it gets.
To help you, I suggest you combine these three key factors or at least use one of them.
A) A field you have skills on
B) A field you’re passionate about
C) A niche or market with an actual high demand
If you can’t find the ideal combination, just focus on the third factor. As movie detectives would say, “just follow the money”.
To check what services have a high demand, just visit the Fiverr website, and in the search tab start typing various services keywords.
For example: web design, social media manager, graphic design, etc.
We will judge the results based on two factors:
1. How are the most successful freelancers pricing their services
2. How many orders in queue does their most successful (most reviewed) Fiverr gig has.
One last important aspect is to analyze and answer the following question:
Are there a lot of freelancers with many orders in queue, pricing their services with the prices we like, or are there only a a few in the first page only?
For example, by searching “social media manager” and checking the search results on Fiverr, you will notice that a lot of freelancers are doing pretty well.
There are many Fiverr Sellers with many orders in queue, not just those who rank on Fiverr first page.
Phase 2: Learn the skills of the services you’re going to offer.
Once you have picked the market or the niche of your choice, is time to ask yourself:
Do I have the skills to offer this service?
If the answer is yes, then the next step is to go and create your Fiverr Seller profile.
If the answer is no, is time to navigate the internet and learn such skills.
There are plenty of courses online, for free on YouTube or on other learning platforms.
But since we are trying to succeed on Fiverr and Fiverr is interested in the growth of the freelancers in their platform, I have found that Fiverr courses are really good and offer high quality information when it comes to learning skills online.
I have done a few on Instagram marketing and Facebook Ads that helped me learn some stuff that I couldn’t find anywhere else.
Phase 3: Build your Fiverr Seller Profile
Once we are ready to market our services and start our freelance business on Fiverr, is time to create our Fiverr Seller profile.
This is when we go action mode when it comes to learning how to be successful on Fiverr and skyrocket our freelancing career.
Because at the end, the most important learning is achieved by doing.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned during all these years is:
Do NOT reinvent the wheel.
What I mean by that is that all youn need to do is study your top competitors and simply replicate what they’re doing.
And this is done not because you are less creative or capable, but because we need to replicate whatever has evidence for actual success.
Here is what you need to do
Step 1: Pick your favorite top competitor and analyze their Fiverr Seller Profile
Step 2: Open a Google Doc document and write down a list of all the type of content that your Fiverr profile will need (profile description, gig description, packages offered, prices, etc.)
As Picasso said:
“A good artist copies, a great artist steals.”
So the goal here is to “steal” by re-writing what your top competitors have on their Fiverr Seller Page, but do not copy-paste.
Save the Google doc, we will go back to it a little later.
Step 3: Write down the services
Get paper and pen and structure all your Fiverr gigs that you will be going to offer.
Fiverr allows new seller to create 7 gigs. You will have to create all of the 7 gis.
Example: If you’re in the social media management market, you will create one gig for being a social media manager, one for being a social media manager for Instagram only, one for Linkedin only, one for Facebook only, etc.
It will improve your SEO and therefore it will help you rank better on Fiverr search results.
Step 4: Do keyword research
Go on Fiverr and search terms related to the niche or market you’ve picked.
For example, if in the social media management niche, start by typing “soci..”, and see how it auto-completes the word or phrase.
Take notes of the top results.
Do the same for other words related to your industry such as Facebook.
You will probably get results such as “Facebook Page” “Facebook ads” etc.
Save all of the results in a Google doc, Word or other.
Now for each gig you will be building, in the description you will have to incorporate all the top keywords you got when you were searching in the Fiverr’s search bar.
This as well will help you rank better once your Fiverr Seller Profile and your fiverr gigs are live.
Step 5: Create Gig creatives
Create 3 images and one 30 – 45 seconds video presentation for each one of your Fiverr gigs.
For my graphic design duties, I use Canva.
If you’re not familiar with it yet, Canva is the most powerful online tool when it comes to creating graphic content such as logos, social media posts, etc.
You can always use Canva even for your Fiverr Gig presentation videos, but I recommend to record a video of yourself.
So don’t be shy and make a 30 to 45 seconds selfie video to say a few words about the service you will be offering for each one of your Fiverr gig.
If you’re too shy for the camera, then Canva it is.
And remember, you can always “do” what your top competitors are doing.
In life but especially in business my moto is one from the Sun Tzu’s book “Art of War” which goes:
“Every battle is won before it is ever fought.”
So do not rush. Do not go do all the work i described above, straight onto your Fiverr Seller Profile.
First prepare all the material. Only after we have everything ready, then you go and create everything on Fiverr.
Which leads us to the next step:
Step 6: Create and optimize your Fiverr Seller profile.
Complete every part of your profile, by keeping an eye on your favorite competitor. Even how the packages are structured. You will want to obviously start with lower prices since you are still a new seller, but do not go to low (do not do $5 packages).
Be humble when it comes to prices but also you’d want to show to your potential clients that your work isn’t cheap just because you’re new to the platform.
Compare yourself to some other new sellers who are growing and getting their first couple of Fiverr 5 star reviews, then imitate those prices.
Step 7: Time to get your first Fiverr order.
While the algorythm is working to rank you, does not mean that you have to sit and wait.
You can start promoting your Fiverr gig on various social media platforms such as Linkedin, Facebook or via e-mail.
Another very important method is to go on Freelancer Facebook groups and exchange “favorites” (“Likes” for Fiverr) with other freelancers on Fiverr.
This will grow your impressions, clicks and of course, favorites and help you rank higher on Fiverr search results.
Important Note:
When you starting receiving the first messages from Fiverr buyers and you’re about to close the first sale, remember to always send to the buyer the custom offer from one gig only.
Consider it to be your main gig and all the optimization has to be done on this gig. So do not have orders distributed on different gigs.
Example: One prospect reaches out and wants to buy your Linkedin management gig? Send them an order from your general social media manager gig.
This is done to concentrate all the traffic in one gig which will be optimized and will compete for ranking with other sellers.
Final thoughts:
Remember that the harderst part comes first.
In the beginning we will have to focus most of our energies and time and focus to achieve small results.
With time passing by everything will start to snowball and you will start getting messages from buyers daily.
So do the following:
A. Do your best to turn the very first message you get into a client.
B. Overdeliver to get 5 star reviews only
C. Make sure they come back
When I got my first message on Fiverr I turned that prospect into a client. I overdelivered and she purchased for another month.
Then her friend messaged me and became a client as well.
To achieve this:
I gave her a good price
Overdelivered the project
Made sure she was happy enough with my services that she would come back.
This is exactly the same mentality I used when I tought my fiancee how to be successful on Fiverr and helped her build a successful Fiverr Seller profile.
So remember that if others made it, you can too.
