What is drop servicing?
Drop Servicing is a business model in which you sell a list of services that you don’t actually provide yourself.
The way it works is simple: you find someone who is willing to provide the service you’re selling (this could be a freelancer or a white label agency), and then you sell it to your own customers at a markup.
This is pretty much the same thing i discussed in my previous article “How To Make Money on Fiverr Without Skills”.
But in this article we will discuss a few other great ideas.
Why drop servicing is a great way to make money
Drop servicing is amazing when it comes to building a successful online business.
It allows you to focus on sales, scalability and growing or improving your team.
This helps you overcome being stuck in the freelancer space, where you are overwhelmed by the amount of projects you have to deliver yourself.
As a freelancer you have to work and deliver each one of the projects on your own and that can be very energy and time consuming.
With drop servicing, you can sell the same services in which you are an expert at, but you can bypass the hard work behind each project, by outsourcing that to other freelancers or white label agencies.
White label agencies do all the work for you but they agree with you when it comes to claiming the work as your own.
What do you need to start your drop servicing business
First, you need to know the list of services you want to sell as the main scope of your business.
Let’s say your online business focuses on web design.
In this case, what you need to do is to go out there and find freelancers who are experts in web design.
This might look like an easy thing to do, but actually finding the right people who are talented, passionate, hard working and trustworthy can be pretty challenging.
There are different places where you can find talented freelancers, but I personally consider as the best options only three.
Let’s go through each one of them.
Using Upwork for your drop servicing business
Upwork is a freelancing platform where businesses and individuals connect to work together.
Businesses can post their project on Upwork and then freelancers can bid on the projects they’re interested in.
Once a freelancer is hired, they can start working on the project right away.
This is a great way for businesses to get work done without having to hire full-time employees.
I rely on Upwork anytime I want to outsource some of my projects.
Upwork has a lot of talent and you can build an amazing team without breaking the bank!
One advice I have for you when hiring on Upwork is; make your job proposal very specific so that the freelancers who apply to it, know exactly what you want to be done.
Hiring on Fiverr for your drop servicing business
One way to save on servicing costs is to hire freelancers on Fiverr.
Fiverr is an online marketplace where you can find a variety of services for just $5.
There are many experienced and talented freelancers who can perform a variety of tasks.
I personally consider Fiverr my go-to marketplace if I am looking for people to complete small tasks or one-time projects.
So for long term projects I hire someone on Upwork, and for other small projects I would use Fiverr.
Hiring someone on Freelancer Facebook groups
There are a lot of freelancing groups on Facebook, with freelancers ready to join your team.
Finding a freelancer fit for your drop servicing business is as easy as joining one of them and posting your job.
Within minutes you will get a lot of messages and comments from people interested in the position.
There are a few things to keep in mind when hiring someone from a Facebook group.
First, be sure to check their credentials and reviews.
It’s also important to have a clear idea of what you need before reaching out to potential candidates.
Once you’ve found someone you’re interested in working with, be sure to communicate your needs and expectations clearly.
Top drop servicing ideas
When it comes to deciding what services to offer, you have to think in terms of scalability.
By this I mean picking up services that you can deliver in the easier way possible for the higher price possible.
Here are my five favorite drop servicing ideas:
1. Social Media Marketing
This is one of the most used drop servicing ideas, but not saturated.
Offering Social Media Marketing for small businesses is a great idea because you can easily outsource it.
You can focus on offering these services to a specific niche such as dentists, lawyers, e-commerce stores or consultants.
And once you acquire your first clients you can then go on Upwork, Fiverr or freelancer Facebook groups and pick the freelancer to do the work for you.
I would suggest spotting the right people to work with first, so that when you get your first clients, everything is well organized and less chaotic!
Some of the Social Media Marketing services you can offer to businesses are: Social Media Management, Instagram Growth, Pinterest Growth, Facebook Advertising, Content Creation, Copywriting and more.
While you don’t need to be an expert yourself in any of these spaces, you still need to know how to sell them.
So it would not hurt to have some knowledge around each one of the platforms.
Everytime I want to learn a new skill or update existing skills I use Fiverr Learn courses. The knowledge they have is high quality.
2. Web Design
Web design is one of those services that allows you to connect with many new businesses that have just launched, and that can open a lot of doors for many other projects or opportunities.
For example once your client’s website just went live, the next thing they will need is to drive traffic to it.
So now they will ask you if you can handle SEO tasks, Paid Advertising on Google, Facebook Ads, etc.
This is why I love web design. The relationship with your customer doesn’t simply end once the website is done.
They website even might require monthly maintenance tasks and updates.
That means more profit for you.
3. Copywriting
Copywriting is an essential need for many businesses out there.
This type of business is perfect for those who have a knack for writing and are willing to help businesses create compelling copy.
You can start by offering your services to small businesses and then expand to larger businesses as your client base grows.
To be successful, you’ll need to be able to understand the needs of your clients and deliver quality work that meets their expectations.
Some might need copywriting for articles on their blog website while others for the Facebook ads campaign.
Some might need content written for their website , landing page or sales funnel.
Whatever you focus on, copywriting is definitely a service to offer.
4. Content Creation
If you’re looking for other drop servicing ideas for your business, content creation is a great option.
You can create content for blogs, websites, or even social media platforms.
The key is to produce high-quality, engaging content that resonates and that makes your clients happy.
Although in a drop servicing business model you don’t need to be doing the work by yourself, if you want some good knowledge around this service, I wrote an article titled “How To Become a Content Creator” that you can read.
5. Building & Selling Online Courses
If you’re looking for special drop servicing business idea, why not consider building and selling online courses?
This can be a great way to tap into a market that is growing rapidly.
There are many consultants, yoga teachers and personal trainers who want to productize their services but don’t know where to start.
All you need to do is hire freelancers who know how to build and host courses on your clients websites.
Even here I would recommend focusing on one specific niche.
You can decide if you want to focus on targeting yoga teachers only or personal trainers, but it is a good practice to not target too many niches.
You may want to check my article on how to make money creating and selling online courses.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a way to start an online business, drop servicing could be a great option for you.
With passion and hard work, you can easily earn money for offering your services to businesses and individuals in need.
You do not need to be a talented graphic designer, web developer, or social media expert.
You only need to find your clients and to hire expert freelancers for the services that you will be selling.
